What Causes Bleeding After Stopping Birth Control Pills?

I have been bleeding (period) for about 30 days now after stopping my birth control pills what may be causing this? I normally bleed for 5 days this is the first time this has ever happened to me. I did not have a period last month and now it will not stop.
