What Causes Bleeding In Ears?

What would cause my sons ear to bleed? It started last night around 11:30pm and when i was cleaning it out it looked like it was stopping. When he woke up this morning it was dried all over the outside of his ear. I cleaned it out this morning but it is still bleeding and I cant see where it is coming from. What should I do?
