What Causes Blood Clot In Mouth?

I have had a cold and like always with a cold I usually get nose bleeds but tonite I woke up with a small blood clot in my mouth and a bad taste in my mouth. i'm not sure if this has anything to do with the cold or not. My cough isn't a rattle anymore but it was last week.
