What Causes Blood Clots In Periods?

I've been taking the Depo contraceptive injection, i just had my 3rd shot last week. I had some spoting a couple days before taking it last week, but since, i keep having bleedings, not everyday, but when it happens it's quite heavy and almost like clots. It might just be normal, but im getting slightly worried has it never happened before. Thank u
