What Causes Blood In Ears While Cleaning The Wax?

My child has an ear infection.. I was trying to clean the ear gently b/c is was very waxy looking. As I was cleaning it, and didn t near the canal, he began crying and said it hurt... 10 minutes later I noticed a little bit of blood must have came from his ear b/c it looks as though some blood was trying to come out and dried.. He isn t complaining of pain. But my concern is, did I cause damage to his ear? Should I get him into a Dr. right away? I would never mean to cause harm to my child.. What do I do?
