What Causes Blood Streaks In Mucus With Dry Cough?

I had blood streaks in mucus in my mouth early this morning. I have had a dry cough for a long time (several years in fact) related to allergy & sinus condition, I think, but was not coughing heavily when the bright red blood appeared. It may have come down from my sinuses, but I did not have any blood in my nasal passages when I blew my nose. I have had a headache for a couple of weeks that sometimes is very painful. Could this blood be related to my sinus issues? Any reason for concern? I did leave a message with my physician early this am, but have not had a call back. Receptionist said there were no appointments until Monday, but would give the doctor my message. Do I need to do something about this?
