What Causes Blotchy Areas With Warmth All Over The Body?

Wife has what feels like sunburn to her. Blochy in areas thus those areas are very warm to touch. She was about to eat salad when it happened. Before that she ate part of a protein bar, which she ate first half before we went to gym. No problems. Says it started in her wrist. Extends to feet. Any ideas? She is diabetic.
