What Causes Bowel Incontinence?

I am a 70 yo male recently I have noticed that my stools are soft and sometimes I can't control when I have to use the bathroom. This is not typical of my bowel movements?
I do have a family doctor and I expect that I will be speaking with him soon regarding this matter.
