What Causes Bronchial Spasms After Exposure To Paint Fumes?

I work in an office with multiple exam rooms and they are painting it all. They have been painting for over a week and don t have windows to open or great ventilation and I started having bronchial spasms yesterday. I didn t go in today as I was hospitalized for a week last year when they painted my condo. What can I do? I feel it is too toxic for me to work while being exposed, but I work in a hospital and they aren t being very accommodating.
