What Causes Brown Colored Spotting?

Hi I have been discharging brown really bad and I have had it before it seems like a period but no period I have ever had is like this at all I put on pads and basically nothing is there but when I wipe its a lot of brown discharge and before all this happens I spot a little blood that is pink but not a lot what's going on?
