What Causes Brown Discharge And Spotting Instead Of Regular Periods?

Hi i am 24 year old and i never had sex.Its been 5 months now since this is happening .I did not get my period for two months and after that i got some brown discharge which looked like blood.
from last two months i have got only spots and not real period flow .Is this something i need to worry about ?
