What Causes Brown Mark On Left Leg Near Groin?

I have, what I've always assumed to be, a birthmark in my genital area. It's a few inches away from where my left leg meets my groin. It's very dark brown and about half the size of an M&M (that's the only thing I could think to compare it do). My question is if this is normal birthmark or something I should get looked at.
