What Causes Brown Stringy Vaginal Bleeding?

I have brown stringy bleeding instead of my usual break through hrt bleed. I recently had polpys from uterine wall removed. They were benign. What is causing the odd bleed. I have been having brown staining before break through bleed for a while but normally normal bleed takes place. Why should this be different?
