What Causes Brown Vaginal Discharge Along With Clots?

I have had a lot of stress the last 3 years, both mother, father, and mother-in-law died plus husband had a mild stroke. The last 1 3/4 years haven't really had a normal menstruation cycle, had pap smear done in February and it was o.k. A year ago I had a couple of months of a light period (September, October, November) and then nothing until now I have some brown discharge with little clots coming out when I wipe and sometimes on my pad. What could this be?
