What Causes Brown Vaginal Discharge While HPT Is Negative?

Somy boyfriend and I had sex after I got off my period. Now almost a month later, I have all the pregnancy signs, but yet every home test I take shows up negative. I now have a brown discharge. I also have the birth control in my arm. Could that be a reason why they keep coming up negative?
