What Causes Brown Vaginal Discharge?

When I had sex with my husband I felt a burning feeling. I went to my doctor and she told me I might have tumors, non malignant, and I going to specialist for that. Now she gave me a ring to use to avoid my period. When I go to the bathroom this liquid substance, brown like comes out my vagina. What is this?
