What Causes Brownish Mucus From Vagina?

I have brownish / red mucus coming out of my vagina. I have had this for 2 months now. I have had this once before back in 2008 my doctor told me that I could have possibly miscarried as my pregnancy test was positive. I haven't done a pregnancy test as the last time I had intercourse was 2 months ago.
