What Causes Brownish Spots On The Body?

I have brownish/ tan spots all over my body.. mainly on my stomach arms and back.. they are more like blotches than spots and it covers almost my whole back and stomach.. when i go into the heat they usually turn red.. any idea of what it is and how it can be treated?
