What Causes Bruise Like Appearance On Knuckles?

my girlfriend has got what looks like a bruise on her knuckle, i told her not to worry but shes a little bit worried as she dosnt remember getting it and now the same bruise seems to be appearing on the other hand in the same spot, just checking that its not anything more serious than just a bruise
