What Causes Bruise On Left Thigh?

I have a very large bruise about the size of a large lemon on the back of my left thigh. It does not hurt at all and I do not remember hitting it, it just seems to have appeared. It also has a knot in the middle about the size of a chickpea. Could this be a blood clot of something serious?
