What Causes Bruises On An Toddler?

My granddaughter has bruises that won't go away or it takes forever for them to go away. What causes this?

I don't need to talk to a doctor, we have an appointment with her pediatrician this afternoon. I am just trying to do some research. Sorry I am not wanting to pay, just want to do some research. Thanks anyway.
