What Causes Bruises On Toes?

Over the last couple of days I have noticed small bruises on odd spots on toes of both my feet. One between my large toe and the next toe and one on the outside of my big toe about an inch from the tip. I take blood thinners as part of my daily meds but have never noticed this type of bruising before.
