What Causes Bruising Around The Base Of Toes On The Top Of Foot?

I noticed bruising around the base of my toes on the top of my foot. About 2 years ago I was in a car accident and fractured the bone further up on my foot,but have no pain from that. In fact no pain, I just notice that the area was discolored and appeared bruised.
