What Causes Bulky Uterus & Endometrial Thickening?

I am a healthy 54 year old lady who went to work overseas, my periods had stopped for 6 months and when I went to work abroad they came back and I had 2 periods then they stopped. I had a scan over there and they said I had endometrial thickening and a bulky uterus. I have to be rescanned to rule out cancer and I am now worried. Is there a chance this is caused by the menopause?
