What Causes Bump And Knot On Head After An Injury?

My niece was playing on a chair and fell out of it and bumped her head and a small knot formed but she is highly alert and still up and playing. Should i take her to the emergency room anyway? Could there be something else going on with this knot ? It formed on the left side of her head right above her ear
