What Causes Bump On The Shin Below Knee?

I have a bump on my shin below my knee. It starts to hurt when I run a lot, but now even as I m watching TV it is throbbing. Very painful.. I have a Physio appointment on Tuesday next week but can barely wait it is so painful. Any suggestions on what to do or what it could be?
