What Causes Bumps On Ear With Swelling?

My husband keeps getting these bumps on his ears, that swell up and give him head aches and are sensitive to touch. Then when he's sitting relaxing or even when he's sleeping it will burst open and drain like blood and pus. What on earth is causing this and how do we fix it?
