What Causes Burning In Legs After Hitting Shin?

I was hit in the shin and initially a lump the about 2 inches in diameter appeared. I applied ice for 48 hours and then moved to heat. After 4 days I started to experience a burning in my leg. Is this normal and how long will it last? The burning occurs towards the end of the day.
