What Causes Burning Pain In Upper Abdomen?

I have had a burning pain in my upper left abdomen. It has progressively gotten worse and now the spot, which is the size of a baseball now hurts to touch. It gets worse when I sit in a chair or drive for an extended period of time or when I am up walking. The only time the pain goes away is when I lay down.
