What Causes Burning Sensation From The Base Of Skull Down To Neck?

I have burning from the base of my skull down my left side of my neck.. It is causing me to have burning eyes and headaches. If I lay down it feels like someone is putting weight on my chest. The burning comes and goes like flashes . I have not been able to find anything to make my head stop hurting. I get these sharp pains at the base of my skull.. Suggestions?
