What Causes Burning Sensation In Lower Abdomen Followed By Diarrhea?

In the past year I have had 3 episodes of this: Sudden intense burning in my lower abdomen followed by diarrhea. The burning and pain is so intense that I break out in a sweat and get nauseous. The whole thing last for 1-2 hours and then it is over. I do have a mild case of diviticulitus and wondering if that might be it.
