What Causes Cervical Stenosis?

What does a tight cervix mean? I had a PAP test (normal) but today when I went to see my gynecologist regarding a recurring infection, he did an ultrasound. Said I have a tight cervix and the PAP showed results from just one side of cervix. Now scheduled to open cervix and see what is going on.
