What Causes Cheek Pain After Tonsils Removal?

Hi my son has his tonsilis removed on Thursday 13th Feb 2014, he has being doing very well until yesterday when he said his cheeks were painful.. And again today he seems to be in a lot of pain with this. Is this a normal thing to experience after this procedure?
