What Causes Child To Always Walk On Tip Toe?

My son is 8 years old and walks on his tip toes all the time. He can put his heels down if you tell him to. So far he has had casts on his legs. He walked heel to toe for a while but went back up on his toes. We then tried braces but that didn t last either. Advice?
