What Causes Chills, Weakness And Coughing?

I have been having chills, weakness, coughing and pain in my head only when I cough. this has been going on almost a week. My mother has had what appears to be the same for 2 weeks. We have been in bed everyday, sleeping all the time. Is this something that one should go to the doctor, or just a flu virus that will soon go away.
