What Causes Chronic Cough Along With Sore Throat?

I have had sore throat, which is going away, very deep cough, not feeling well for at least ten days. Terrible time sleeping because of cough. PA doesn't want to give antibiotic because of likelihood that this is viral. I am 70 years old. Concerned about syncs infection and/or pneumonia . took tamiflu week before last because granddaughter had type A flu. Mucus from nasal passage bloody. Have had low grade temp. Nothing over 99.5. Any suggestions?
