What Causes Chronic Pain And Swelling In Outer Ankle?

I have a pain (ache) and swelling in my left outside ankle that some times increases up the outside of my leg, I have had a blood test and no gout I have had an ex ray and no damaged bones I have had this pain for over a year and cant exercise as it gets worse I don t think it is arthritis either please help.
