What Causes Clear White Vaginal Discharge Along With Abdominal Cramps?

Three years ago I had a cyst removed from my uterus that was causing me to bleed very heavy. During this operation I also had a uterine ablation and haven't had a period since. I started having cramps a few weeks ago and had a strange discharge about a week ago. It was very thick and sticky almost like a thin sticky skin and about a tablespoon in size. It was white/clear. I only had it the one time but today I start what seems to be a period. Is that possible after 3 years? I'm 50 and have had other minor signs of menopause (mild flashes and face hair)
