What Causes Cold And Swollen Tonsils And Loss Of Voice?

I've had a cold and swollen tonsils for about a week now and within the last two days my voice has disappeared. I was participating in a week long event two weeks ago that required excessive shouting, which I expect took some life out of voice box and now that I have a cold the coughing can't be helping but I'm very concerned as this has never happened to me before. Suggestions?
