What Causes Constant Brown And Black Discharge?

i have brown to black discharge and i am not regular with my period. instead of having it only for about a week i have it constantly, at an extremly low flow. almost not worth wearing a liner. but everytime i take out a tampon, it is dark brown to black. what's wrong!
