What Causes Cough With Low Body Temperature?

Hello, my boyfriend has had a very bad cough for about 3 days now. His temperature is 96.5. We are going to a clinic in the morning, but is his low temperature something that needs to be taken care of now?
Also, what can I do to soothe his cough?
