What Causes Coughing With Bloody Nasal Mucus?

i just sneezed and a glob the size of a penny but a little smaller came out when i sneezed... and i have had a cough for a week so far, i was sick for a few days and now i have had a pretty bad cough now its okay, its not better but its better than before? what does the red snot mean?
