What Causes Cramps In Hip Radiating To Shoulder?

I had a back cramp from the top of my hip to the top of my shoulder on the right side for about 4 hours the other night. It stopped as fast as it started, but during and afterwards it hurt to take a deep breath. It seems fine now with only a slight pain deep inside about mid way up. Any idea what might have caused it. I am a 59 year old white male.
