What Causes Cramps, Spotting And Negative Pregnancy Tests?

I had some light cramping and a small spot of blood on Wed. I immediately thought of pregnancy but the test I took came up negative. There was no blood until Saturday morning (very small spot, pinkish) but still very light cramping. I made myself wait until today to take a test, but still negative. Could I be pregnant but still too early?
