What Causes Dark Blue Color Under The Eyes Before Menstruation?

Every month right before my period I get dark blue to purple under my eyes. The blue/purple is very vivid and continues on to one or two days into my period then they disappear. I have had my iron levels checked several times. My doctor has not told me that I am iron defficent. What is my problem? Why do I get this blue/purple coloring under my eyes every month and what can I do to get rid of it?
