What Causes Dark Brown And Light Bleeding During Menstruation?

I acame on my period 5 days ago but it's not been like my normal period, Im normally on quite heavy for 6 days then it gradually it gets lighter but this month its been a dark brown colour and really light. What could this be? I've never had it before?
