What Causes Dark Colored Patch On Either Side Of The Tongue?

hello i am george from london. recently i have noticed that i am having having a dark coloured infection on my either side of my tongue, when i told my mom about this she had checked her aswell.... soon we found that all the five members of our family is having the same problem......... can anyone tell us what the problem is.. and how can we get rid of it.....
