What Causes Dark Spots All Over The Body?

Hello. over the last 10 months I have had dark brown almost black spots show up anywhere on my body. They are round and look like moles but are flat and not raised . My dermatologist thinks I am having reactions to something I am eating. He doesn't know the cause. These things are popping up daily and so far will not go away.
