What Causes Dark Spots On Feet ?

I have dark spots on the sole of my feet fore more than 8 Yrs now, it does not itch or give me any reason to panic but it doesn't seem to go away does anyone know what it is? I would really appreciate an anser. They are different shapes an sizes ranging from 2-5mm .
