What Causes Dark Spots On Penis?

Please tell me what causes dark spots on the penis? I am very upset. The dark spots vary in size. Some are like a freckle and some are much larger. They are not raised. I have no burning or itching or any other symptoms. I am monogamous with my wife and do not have an STD.
